DIY DEODORANT

Deodorant versus Antiperspirant

Many people use the word deodorant and antiperspirant synonymously. However, they are different. In fact, they have different active ingredients. So, you may find this information useful if you are trying to decide on deodorant versus antiperspirant?

What is Deodorant?

So, what is deodorant? A traditional deodorant and a DIY deodorant are both designed to prevent or to mask odor causing bacteria under the arms. Therefore, the active ingredients will be antibacterial and/or fragrant. In most cases, deodorants are both antibacterial and fragrant unless it is specifically labelled unscented. However, some deodorants are also antiperspirants.

What is Antiperspirant?

An antiperspirant is designed to prevent or minimize perspiration under the arm. Therefore, the active ingredients will be antiperspirant in nature. So, it will help keep your armpits dry. One of the best antiperspirants that I have used is the Certain Dri Clinical Strength Antiperspirant. It is completely unscented and can help keep you dry on a really stressful day. Since this antiperspirant is unscented, you can follow it up with one of the DIY deodorants or another deodorant.

What is Hyperhydrosis?

So, what is hyperhydrosis? Or to be accurate – what is hyperhidrosis? It is normal to perspire or sweat underneath the arms. However, when a person experiences excessive sweating under the arms it is called hyperhidrosis. In most cases, traditional antiperspirants are not effective, and deodorants may or may not work. In severe cases, some people get botox injections under the arm to reduce sweating. Others often opt for using underarm pads for sweating to help keep their armpits dry.
