DIY Linen Spray

This lovely smelling DIY linen spray is a homemade linen spray that disinfects. Linen spray is incredibly easy to prepare. Once you make your first DIY linen spray you will likely keep making your own. This fresh smelling spray can be used on your curtains, rugs, pillows, and linens.

diy linen spray

Ingredients

DIY linen spray is made with (1) a distilled water, (2) a drying agent, and (3) a fragrance.

1. Distilled Water

When preparing the DIY linen spray, you should use distilled water. Distilled water has has been processed in such a way that most of the impurities have been removed. Faucet water is usually filled with impurities that you do not want to spray on your sheets, linens and other household items you are trying to freshen up.

2.  Drying Agent

Water is of course naturally wet. So, you will need a drying agent that can help the DIY linen spray dry faster once a fine mist is sprayed on your linens and fabrics. You can use (1) rubbing alcohol or (2) witch hazel as a sort of drying agent.

The rubbing alcohol is my first choice because it is a disinfectant and an effective drying agent that smells decent all by itself. Witch hazel has astringent properties that can be used as a last resort. In my experience, witch hazel can alter the smell of whatever fragrance or essential oil(s) you decide to use. While it does not smell bad, it is not something that you would necessarily say smells good.

3. Fragrance

You can add fragrance to your DIY linen spray with (1) essential oils or (2) fragrance oils. Essential oils are all natural and can provide real aromatherapy benefits.

Lavender essential oil is probably the most popular DIY linen spray with essential oil. This is because the smell of lavender essential oil makes you feel good while promoting a good night of sleep and rest. However, with that said, I will encourage you to get a small set of essential oils with lavender because some essential oils smell even better and are more effective when combined with other essential oils.

The fresh linen and fresh cotton fragrance oils are probably the most popular DIY linen spray with fragrance oil. Both have a wonderful clean smell. To keep things fresh and interesting, you can get a small set of fragrance oils (fresh cotton, sweet pea, mountain rain, ocean breeze, vanilla, and baby powder) that can be used to make a variety of DIY linen spray fragrances or DIY room spray recipes.

Linen Spray Recipe:

*Some fragrance oils and essential oils have stronger or lighter smells than others. Therefore, you can add a little more or little less fragrance/essential oil as needed.

How To Use:

  • Shake the DIY linen spray before each use to combine the ingredients together.

In Summary

You can find the DIY linen spray on the DIY laundry spray page. Visit the DIY Laundry page for laundry specific links including DIY laundry detergent and DIY dryer sheets. DIY Dryer Sheets (with Fabric Softener)

So, these homemade dryer sheets are DIY dryer sheets with fabric softener. You can make and use this type of dryer sheet as easily as the DIY dryer sheets with vinegar. The good thing about making DIY dryer sheets with fabric softener is that it takes some of the mystery out of the end results. The DIY dryer sheets with conditioner may also give you a similar result.

DIY Dryer Sheets with Fabric Softener

Ingredients

These DIY dryer sheets are made with only 2 ingredients including (1) water and (2) the fabric softener of choice.

1. Water

I have seen people use water from the faucet to make the DIY dryer sheets with fabric softener. However, if you live in a warm area and may not use the dryer sheet mixture in a relatively short period of time, you may opt for using distilled water to help it stay fresh for a longer period of time.

2. Fabric Softener

You can choose any liquid fabric softener that you like to make these DIY dryer sheets. However, Downy (Lavender Vanilla Bean), Gain (Moonlight Breeze), and Snuggle (Original) are popular fabric softeners that will usually leave your clothes smelling wonderfully nice and fresh!

Supplies

You will only need (3) a reusable dryer sheet and (4) a container of some sort.

3. Reusable Dryer Sheet

You have a variety of options for the reusable dryer sheet. You can cut an old t-shirt into 6×6 squares to use as your dryer sheet. Or for a more professional look, you can use something like these reusable dryer sheets.

4. Container

To mix the solution used for these DIY dryer sheets with fabric softener, you can use a jar with a lid or a large spray bottle. When using a jar with a lid, you can leave the reusable dryer sheets soaking in the solution until needed. When using a spray bottle, spray your reusable dryer sheet well before using it to dry with your clothes.

Instructions: Mix the liquid ingredients together well and then place the dryer sheet in the container. If you are using a spray bottle, just spray the dryer sheet when you are ready to use it.

In Summary

This is the third DIY dryer sheet option for drying your laundry. You can find other options on the DIY dryer sheets or DIY laundry page. In the meantime, enjoy making and using the DIY dryer sheets with fabric softener.

DIY Dryer Sheets (With Conditioner)

You can make simple DIY dryer sheets with condition as well! I personally really like the DIY dryer sheets with vinegar, so I decided to give the homemade dryer sheets with hair conditioner a go. With the condition, it can both soften and scent your clothes. So, it can be a win-win solution when it comes to homemade dryer sheets. Then too, the DIY dryer sheets with condition can be a good alternative to the DIY dryer sheets with vinegar because much less vinegar is used.

I personally really like the DIY dryer sheets with vinegar in the hot summer heat because it adds a natural pH balance to your clothes. So, when you are in the unavoidable heat sweating, your clothes are basically laced with a natural deodorant. Then too, these dryer sheets require one less step. You can simply grab one of the dryer sheets straight from the jar and toss it in the dryer with your load of clothes.

diy dryer sheets with conditioner

Ingredients

The DIY dryer sheets with condition are also made with only two ingredients including (1) a conditioner and (2) a vinegar.

1. Conditioner

The conditioner is a simple hair conditioner. You can find one with a fragrance that you really like. I am using an old bottle of conditioner that I found in the cabinet last week. It did not work well for my hair type, but it has a clean, mostly neutral scent that can be used with the laundry. Since the fragrance of the hair conditioner is not strong, I added a fragrance that I used to make the DIY laundry detergent powder and another laundry product to give it the same fragrance.

2. Vinegar

Distilled white vinegar is the recommended vinegar. It has a milder vinegar smell than distilled apple cider vinegar. However, I made my DIY dryer sheets with condition with a distilled apple cider vinegar.

Supplies

Once the solution is mixed in a jar, you can saturate several reusable dryer sheets in the mixture. So, you will need (3) two jars and (4) multiple reusable cloths.

3. Reusable Towel

Microfiber clothes are super staticky. Therefore, they are not ideal for making DIY dryer sheets. To keep things professional looking, you can use something like these reusable cotton clothes for your dryer sheets. If needed, you can cut them down to size (4×4 or 6×6). Otherwise, you can cut up a cotton or a cotton/polyester fabric blend to make your own dryer sheets.

4. Jars

You will need two small glass jars with a lid. The first jar is needed to mix the ingredients together and soak the DIY dryer sheets. The second jar is used for storing the dry dryer sheets before use. You have to air-dry the DIY dryer sheets with conditioner before placing them in the dryer with a load of clothes. However, the good news is that you can use the same sheet multiple times before repeating the soaking and drying step.

diy dryer sheets with conditioner

Basic Ingredients

NOTE: Since I personally like the vinegar, I used a 2 to 1 ratio of condition to vinegar. A 3 to 1 ratio would be 3/4 cup condition + 1/4 cup vinegar)

Preparation:

  1. Mix the needed amount of conditioner and vinegar together in a small jar.
  2. Now add your reusable dryer sheets to the mixture to absorb the fabric softening solution.
  3. Once the DIY dryer sheets are thoroughly saturated, remove them from the jar, squeeze most of the liquid out, and then hang them to dry.
  4. Once dry, you can store them in a clean dry jar until needed for your laundry.

How To Use:

  1. Place one of the dry dryer sheets in the dryer with your wet clothes.
  2. When finished drying your clothes, place the reusable dryer sheet back in the clean dry jar for a second or third use.
  3. When needed, repeat preparation step 2 and step 3.

In Summary

That is all for now. You can find more DIY Laundry Products that you can make. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy making and using these DIY dryer sheets with conditioner.

DIY Dryer Sheets (With Vinegar)

This amazing DIY dryer sheets option is part of the apple cider vinegar for cleaning series! However, the dryer sheets can be made just as easily with distilled white vinegar or distilled apple cider vinegar. These DIY dryer sheets are incredibly easy to prepare, and they work really well! If you are like most, you are probably thinking “vinegar” on a dryer sheet – really?! As much as I like making and using homemade vinegar cleaning products, this idea was a surprise to me as well! But I had to at least give it a try. To my surprise, it worked really well!

Testing It Out

To test it out, I first filled a small container with a small amount of distilled white vinegar and then added the cloth for my DIY dryer sheets. After using one in the dryer to dry clothes, to my surprise, the clothes did not turn out smelling like vinegar at all! Instead, they turned out smelling like the fresh fragrance scent that was added to the mixture. Since distilled apple cider vinegar has a slightly sharper smell, I did another set of clothes using the DIY dryer sheets from a container mixed with the apple cider vinegar. The results turned out the same.

diy dryer sheets

The Supplies

You will basically only need (1) small set of reusable cotton cloth and (2) a small glass jar with a lid. The reusable clothes will become your dryer sheets. Cotton or cotton polyester blends work well for the dryer sheets. The microfiber cloths can become static clingy. If needed, you can use an old unused fabric that you have to make the dryer sheets. Then, the small glass jar with a lid is used for you to make the solution for the DIY dryer sheets to soak.

The Ingredients

You will need (1) a vinegar and (2) a fragrance to make this set of DIY dryer sheets. Distilled white vinegar or distilled apple cider vinegar can be used. Then, you can add a fragrance to the dryer sheets with a small amount of essential oil or fragrance oil. Adding a fragrance is optional.

Basic Mixture

  • 1/3 c. Distilled White Vinegar (or Distilled Apple Cider Vinegar)
  • 1/4 tsp. Fragrance

NOTE: You can adjust the amount of vinegar and the amount of fragrance added. You can do so as needed to (1) fill your container enough to cover your DIY dryer sheets and (2) to achieve the resulting fragrance you want for your laundry once the clothes are dry.

Instructions

  1. Place whatever you are using for your dryer sheets in the small glass jar.
  2. Then fill your small glass jar with enough vinegar to cover your dryer sheets.
  3. Now you can add a few drops of essential oil or fragrance oil to give them a scent.
  4. Stir or shake the mixture to let the liquids mix together well and then make sure the dryer sheets are covered in the liquid solution.

How To Use

  1. When ready to use, remove one of the DIY dryer sheets from the jar.
  2. You can gently squeeze some of the vinegar out of the sheet to keep it from dripping.
  3. Then place the wet dryer sheet in the dryer with your clothes to dry.
  4. After the clothes are dry, you will be left with fresh non-vinegar smelling clothes.
  5. When finished, return the DIY dryer sheets to the jar for using the next time.

DIY Laundry Spray (Scent Booster)

This DIY laundry spray is a lovely prewash fabric refresher, odor eliminator. If you are already adding one of the laundry fragrance oils to your DIY Laundry Detergent or DIY Laundry Detergent Without Borax, you can use the same fragrance in the DIY laundry spray! In this way, you can give your clothes the same wonderfully clean scent boost. I personally used the same fragrance combination that was used to make my latest batch of DIY Laundry Detergent. The DIY Laundry Detergent Without Borax is still my favorite, but the DIY laundry detergent definitely works well. Some things may ultimately depend on whether or not you have hard water.

diy laundry spray

Ingredients

This DIY prewash fabric spray is prepared with a mixture of water, vinegar, dish detergent, and optional fragrance.

1. Water

In my opinion, it is a good idea to make small batches of your DIY Cleaning Products. In this way, you can have a steady supply of fresh cleaning products to use. Then too, you can easily tweak the recipe here and there to customize the ingredients to better fit your needs. With all that said, if you are making a small batch of this DIY prewash fabric spray to use right away, you can make the recipe with clean faucet water. Otherwise, if you think you will end up having some left over, you can use distilled water to help it stay fresh.

2. Vinegar

I am partial to apple cider vinegar because of the physical health benefits apple cider with vinegar with mother. However, when it comes to making DIY cleaning products, the white vinegar can be used because it works just as well. Vinegar is an odor eliminator that allows the entire load of clothes to experience a deeper cleaning. The vinegar does what it is going to do and then the vinegar smell dissipates. In fact, vinegar can be used as the solution for one of the DIY laundry sheet recipe combinations.

3. Dish Detergent

A concentrated dish detergent is used to make this DIY prewash fabric spray. The Dawn dish detergent is a good option. It can be used to start breaking down the small particles of dirt trapped in your clothes. Once added to your wash, it ultimately contributes to the whole load of clothes.

4. Fragrance

The fragrance oil is completely optional! Many people want their clothes to smell nice and fresh when they come out of the wash. So, to achieve that goal, a fragrance of some sort must be added. However, remember not to use too much of the fragrance oil and do a test run beforehand.

DIY Laundry Spray

Preparation:

  1. You can use a small funnel to place the ingredients directly into the spray bottle or place the ingredients in a measuring cup with a pourable spout first.
  2. For a small batch of the DIY laundry spray, place the needed amount of water, vinegar, dish detergent, and fragrance oil (optional) as shown in a container. Otherwise, you can double, triple, or quadruple the recipe as needed.
  3. Mix the ingredients well by shaking the bottle with the lid securely in place or stirring the mixture in the measuring cup.
  4. Once mixed, the scent boosting DIY laundry spray is ready to use.

In Summary

This DIY laundry spray is a really good addition to whatever load of laundry it may be added. But that is all for now. Feel free to like, comment, or share. You can also subscribe to get notified when posts are made. Enjoy this DIY laundry spray.

DIY Laundry Detergent That Works!

If you are looking for a DIY laundry detergent that works, you are in the right place! There are a number of ways that a DIY laundry detergent can be prepared. And the great part is that they actually work! I routinely use them to wash my laundry. This DIY laundry detergent is made with a grated bar of laundry soap. So, it is a type of powdered laundry detergent. The DIY laundry detergent without borax is another DIY laundry detergent that works! It is prepared with an incredible blend of laundry powders that leave your clothes clean and soft. So, it may be a really excellent choice for your more delicate, soft textured clothes. Nevertheless, it will clean your rough textured clothing just as well. So, let’s get to this homemade laundry detergent recipe.

Ingredients

This laundry powder recipe is prepared with baking soda, laundry soap, citric acid, washing soda, borax, and fragrance.

1. Baking Soda

Most people are familiar with the fact that baking soda is a great odor eliminator that we sometimes pop in the fridge to keep it smelling fresh. However, it is also a wonderful fabric softener all by itself. Then, when paired with laundry boosters like vinegar or citric acid, it becomes a foaming cleansing agent.

2. Laundry Soap

The soap used in this DIY laundry detergent is a bar of laundry soap. The pH of this soap is for washing your clothes, not the skin. So, you should wear gloves while grating the laundry soap to protect your hands. In my experience, the DIY laundry detergent recipes made with a bar of laundry soap does not create a bunch of bubbles that you would expect to see with a traditional laundry detergent powder, but it does indeed clean and freshen your clothes well. The DIY laundry detergent without borax creates much more lather.

3. Citric Acid

The citric acid is a popular laundry booster. Food grade citric acid is used in some food, candy, and drinks to give it a sour taste. In spite of the name, it is a safe acid to use that is very similar to vitamin c (ascorbic acid). When combined with the baking soda it helps to create the foaming action that can provide a deep cleaning for your clothes.

4. Washing Soda

The washing soda is often used by people with hard water. It helps to minimize or eliminate the soap residue that hard water can cause.

5. Borax

Borax is not a foaming agent, but it enhances the cleaning of your clothes. Therefore, it is another popular DIY laundry detergent booster. As a whitener, it is a good substitute for bleach. Unlike bleach, it does not make your colored clothes fade. As an odor neutralizer, it can combat the smell of ammonia in baby clothes. And, as a disinfectant, it can discourage the growth of bacteria, fungi, and mold that is common in moist laundry or washing machines [0].

6. Fragrance

Adding a fragrance oil or essential oil is completely optional. Keep in mind that a fragrance oil and an essential oil are both oils. Another option is to use a scented laundry soap bar.

DIY Laundry Detergent Without Borax

This DIY laundry detergent without borax is a is a deep cleaning homemade laundry detergent without borax. It is prepared with only 3 ingredients that makes a powerful little combination for a homemade laundry detergent without borax. This DIY laundry detergent without borax is both gentle on your clothes and an effective laundry detergent.

DIY Laundry Detergent Without Borax

Ingredients

This DIY laundry detergent without borax is prepared with (1) baking soda, (2) SLSA, and (3) citric acid. A pleasant fragrance can also be added if you want your DIY laundry detergent to have a scent.

1. Baking Soda

This is the main ingredient used in this DIY laundry detergent without borax. Baking soda is a natural odor eliminator and a natural fabric softener. So, it can help your clothes come out clean, fresh, and soft.

2. SLSA

The SLSA powder is the soapy agent. It is what will form the bubbles and visible cleaning action. It is the same ingredient used to make things like foaming bubble bath recipes and foaming bath bomb recipes. So, the SLSA can also be used to make an excellent DIY laundry detergent without borax. With that said, however, when in its concentrated state, SLSA should be handled with care using a mask, safety glasses, and a pair of gloves.

3. Citric Acid

Citric acid is used as a laundry booster. While just the baking soda and SLSA will create some bubbles for you to wash away some of the superficial dirt from your clothes, the citric acid takes it a step further. It can greatly enhance the foaming and cleaning action of the SLSA. In this way, your clothes receive a deep cleaning.

4. Fragrance

A fragrance oil can be added to your DIY laundry detergent without borax. Just keep in mind that a fragrance oil is an oil. Therefore, only a relatively small amount can be used. I have successfully used different essential oil and fragrance oil in the amount shared below to scent this DIY laundry detergent without borax. Once the fragrance oil has been added to the laundry detergent powder, I use a spoon to thoroughly mix each drop into the powder. So, there are no visible clumps of fragrance oil in the laundry detergent.

  1. Place the baking soda, SLSA, and citric acid in a clean dry storage container.

Another option is to cover the container with a secure fitting lid and then shake the container to mix the powders together. Afterwards, let the container sit for several minutes to let the dust settle before opening.
  3. Next, you can add the fragrance oil or essential oil of your choice to both scent the DIY laundry detergent and help reduce the powdery effect.
