DIY Furniture Polish

Using a DIY furniture polish is a great way to both economize and reduce the number of chemicals that are used in your home. I have been organizing and cleaning the top of my desk for weeks. Now that it is relatively organized, I decided to start the day with this easy, clean-smelling, DIY furniture polish.

Ingredients

The desk is made of a finished wood, so this particular DIY furniture polish is created for a finished wood surface. This DIY furniture polish is simply made with oil, vinegar, and essential oil.

1. Oil

You can use either vegetable oil or olive oil to make this DIY furniture polish. There are many types of vegetable oils. Therefore, a homemade furniture polish with vegetable can yield a furniture polish with varying degrees of thickness. On the other hand, a homemade furniture polish with olive will usually give you a consistent thickness. For this reason, olive oil is perfect for making DIY Furniture Polish.

2. Vinegar

The vinegar is the clean agent. I prefer apple cider vinegar because it can be used for so many different DIY Cleaning Products. However, white vinegar can be used as well.

3. Essential Oil

Essential oils are fragrant and antimicrobial. Lemon essential oil and orange essential oil are the two most popular scents for a furniture polish. Therefore, it makes a great fragrance for the DIY furniture polish.

NOTE: All wood surfaces are not the same. So, it is a good idea to do a small patch test in an obscure area of the wood to make sure that the furniture polish is compatible with whatever wood surface that you are polishing, dusting, or cleaning.

How to Use:

  1. Spray the DIY furniture polish on the surface of the wood.
  2. Use a soft microfiber cloth to clean and wipe away any dust.
  3. Then use a dry cloth to polish and make sure the surface is dry.
