DIY Dryer Sheets (with Fabric Softener)

So, these homemade dryer sheets are DIY dryer sheets with fabric softener. You can make and use this type of dryer sheet as easily as the DIY dryer sheets with vinegar. The good thing about making DIY dryer sheets with fabric softener is that it takes some of the mystery out of the end results. The DIY dryer sheets with conditioner may also give you a similar result.

DIY Dryer Sheets with Fabric Softener

Ingredients

These DIY dryer sheets are made with only 2 ingredients including (1) water and (2) the fabric softener of choice.

1. Water

I have seen people use water from the faucet to make the DIY dryer sheets with fabric softener. However, if you live in a warm area and may not use the dryer sheet mixture in a relatively short period of time, you may opt for using distilled water to help it stay fresh for a longer period of time.

2. Fabric Softener

You can choose any liquid fabric softener that you like to make these DIY dryer sheets. However, Downy (Lavender Vanilla Bean), Gain (Moonlight Breeze), and Snuggle (Original) are popular fabric softeners that will usually leave your clothes smelling wonderfully nice and fresh!

Supplies

You will only need (3) a reusable dryer sheet and (4) a container of some sort.

3. Reusable Dryer Sheet

You have a variety of options for the reusable dryer sheet. You can cut an old t-shirt into 6×6 squares to use as your dryer sheet. Or for a more professional look, you can use something like these reusable dryer sheets.

4. Container

To mix the solution used for these DIY dryer sheets with fabric softener, you can use a jar with a lid or a large spray bottle. When using a jar with a lid, you can leave the reusable dryer sheets soaking in the solution until needed. When using a spray bottle, spray your reusable dryer sheet well before using it to dry with your clothes.

DIY Dryer Sheets (With Conditioner)

You can make simple DIY dryer sheets with condition as well! I personally really like the DIY dryer sheets with vinegar, so I decided to give the homemade dryer sheets with hair conditioner a go. With the condition, it can both soften and scent your clothes. So, it can be a win-win solution when it comes to homemade dryer sheets. Then too, the DIY dryer sheets with condition can be a good alternative to the DIY dryer sheets with vinegar because much less vinegar is used.

I personally really like the DIY dryer sheets with vinegar in the hot summer heat because it adds a natural pH balance to your clothes. So, when you are in the unavoidable heat sweating, your clothes are basically laced with a natural deodorant. Then too, these dryer sheets require one less step. You can simply grab one of the dryer sheets straight from the jar and toss it in the dryer with your load of clothes.

Ingredients

The DIY dryer sheets with condition are also made with only two ingredients including (1) a conditioner and (2) a vinegar.

1. Conditioner

The conditioner is a simple hair conditioner. You can find one with a fragrance that you really like. I am using an old bottle of conditioner that I found in the cabinet last week. It did not work well for my hair type, but it has a clean, mostly neutral scent that can be used with the laundry. Since the fragrance of the hair conditioner is not strong, I added a fragrance that I used to make the DIY laundry detergent powder and another laundry product to give it the same fragrance.

2. Vinegar

Distilled white vinegar is the recommended vinegar. It has a milder vinegar smell than distilled apple cider vinegar. However, I made my DIY dryer sheets with condition with a distilled apple cider vinegar.

Supplies

Once the solution is mixed in a jar, you can saturate several reusable dryer sheets in the mixture. So, you will need (3) two jars and (4) multiple reusable cloths.

3. Reusable Towel

Microfiber clothes are super staticky. Therefore, they are not ideal for making DIY dryer sheets. To keep things professional looking, you can use something like these reusable cotton clothes for your dryer sheets. If needed, you can cut them down to size (4×4 or 6×6). Otherwise, you can cut up a cotton or a cotton/polyester fabric blend to make your own dryer sheets.

4. Jars

You will need two small glass jars with a lid. The first jar is needed to mix the ingredients together and soak the DIY dryer sheets. The second jar is used for storing the dry dryer sheets before use. You have to air-dry the DIY dryer sheets with conditioner before placing them in the dryer with a load of clothes. However, the good news is that you can use the same sheet multiple times before repeating the soaking and drying step.

Basic Ingredients

NOTE: Since I personally like the vinegar, I used a 2 to 1 ratio of condition to vinegar. A 3 to 1 ratio would be 3/4 cup condition + 1/4 cup vinegar)

Preparation:

  1. Mix the needed amount of conditioner and vinegar together in a small jar.
  2. Now add your reusable dryer sheets to the mixture to absorb the fabric softening solution.
  3. Once the DIY dryer sheets are thoroughly saturated, remove them from the jar, squeeze most of the liquid out, and then hang them to dry.
  4. Once dry, you can store them in a clean dry jar until needed for your laundry.

How To Use:

  1. Place one of the dry dryer sheets in the dryer with your wet clothes.
  2. When finished drying your clothes, place the reusable dryer sheet back in the clean dry jar for a second or third use.
  3. When needed, repeat preparation step 2 and step 3.

In Summary

That is all for now. You can find more DIY Laundry Products that you can make. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy making and using these DIY dryer sheets with conditioner.

DIY Dryer Sheets (With Vinegar)

This amazing DIY dryer sheets option is part of the apple cider vinegar for cleaning series! However, the dryer sheets can be made just as easily with distilled white vinegar or distilled apple cider vinegar. These DIY dryer sheets are incredibly easy to prepare, and they work really well! If you are like most, you are probably thinking “vinegar” on a dryer sheet – really?! As much as I like making and using homemade vinegar cleaning products, this idea was a surprise to me as well! But I had to at least give it a try. To my surprise, it worked really well!

Testing It Out

To test it out, I first filled a small container with a small amount of distilled white vinegar and then added the cloth for my DIY dryer sheets. After using one in the dryer to dry clothes, to my surprise, the clothes did not turn out smelling like vinegar at all! Instead, they turned out smelling like the fresh fragrance scent that was added to the mixture. Since distilled apple cider vinegar has a slightly sharper smell, I did another set of clothes using the DIY dryer sheets from a container mixed with the apple cider vinegar. The results turned out the same.

The Supplies

You will basically only need (1) small set of reusable cotton cloth and (2) a small glass jar with a lid. The reusable clothes will become your dryer sheets. Cotton or cotton polyester blends work well for the dryer sheets. The microfiber cloths can become static clingy. If needed, you can use an old unused fabric that you have to make the dryer sheets. Then, the small glass jar with a lid is used for you to make the solution for the DIY dryer sheets to soak.

The Ingredients

You will need (1) a vinegar and (2) a fragrance to make this set of DIY dryer sheets. Distilled white vinegar or distilled apple cider vinegar can be used. Then, you can add a fragrance to the dryer sheets with a small amount of essential oil or fragrance oil. Adding a fragrance is optional.

Basic Mixture

  • 1/3 c. Distilled White Vinegar (or Distilled Apple Cider Vinegar)
  • 1/4 tsp. Fragrance

NOTE: You can adjust the amount of vinegar and the amount of fragrance added. You can do so as needed to (1) fill your container enough to cover your DIY dryer sheets and (2) to achieve the resulting fragrance you want for your laundry once the clothes are dry.

Instructions

  1. Place whatever you are using for your dryer sheets in the small glass jar.
  2. Then fill your small glass jar with enough vinegar to cover your dryer sheets.
  3. Now you can add a few drops of essential oil or fragrance oil to give them a scent.
  4. Stir or shake the mixture to let the liquids mix together well and then make sure the dryer sheets are covered in the liquid solution.

How To Use

  1. When ready to use, remove one of the DIY dryer sheets from the jar.
  2. You can gently squeeze some of the vinegar out of the sheet to keep it from dripping.
  3. Then place the wet dryer sheet in the dryer with your clothes to dry.
  4. After the clothes are dry, you will be left with fresh non-vinegar smelling clothes.
  5. When finished, return the DIY dryer sheets to the jar for using the next time.
