DIY Tinted Lip Balm

This lovely DIY tinted lip balm is very similar to the DIY tinted lip balm without beeswax. The main difference is that this DIY tinted lip balm contains beeswax. The beeswax makes the lip balm go on smoothly. It does so while sealing in the moisture from the skin nourishing butter and oil. So, unless you want, need, or prefer a lip balm without beeswax, the DIY tinted lip balm with beeswax is the way to go!

diy tinted lip balm

Ingredients

This DIY tinted lip balm is prepared with mango butter, almond oil, beeswax, and colorant.

1. Mango Butter

Mango butter is a natural antimicrobial, and it does an excellent job of moisturizing the skin on your lips. While it is solid at room temperature, the mango butter softens easily when you apply the DIY tinted lip balm to your lips.

2. Almond Oil

Almond oil is another antioxidant-rich, skin loving oil that makes a wonderful addition to lip balms. As an antioxidant, almond oil can help to naturally preserve the quality of your DIY tinted lip balm. And what is more, it does an excellent job of moisturizing your lips without making them feel sticky or greasy.

3. Beeswax

Beeswax creates a protective barrier for your lips with the ingredients used in this DIY tinted lip balm. The beeswax is an emollient that seals the moisture in your lips. And as a humectant, it can attract and retain even more moisture. You will need a white beeswax or a vegan white candelilla wax to make DIY tinted lip balm. Otherwise, the yellow beeswax may alter the color of your tinted lip balm.

4. Colorant

The DIY tinted lip balm should be prepared with a lip safe mica powder. You can find the perfect color or create your own unique color.

Yields: 2-3 Tinted Lip Balms (Depending on tube size.)

DIY Tinted Lip Balm Without Beeswax

This DIY tinted lip balm without beeswax is a simple luscious lip balm. It plays both roles of moisturizing and tinting your lips very well. It is an effective lip treatment and colorant, yet it is about as simple as it gets to prepare. Without any beeswax, this lip balm is a luscious creamy textured tinted lip butter. Once the cream is applied to your lips, the lip balm butter melts easily while leaving whatever lip tint you decide to use behind.

If you are interested in a DIY tinted lip balm without beeswax because you want a vegan lip balm, there is a candelilla vegan white wax that can be substituted for the beeswax. A DIY tinted lip balm with beeswax can give this lip balm a firmer texture, glide on your lips smoothly, and better withstand temperature changes. But otherwise, the DIY tinted lip balm without beeswax can still moisturize and tint your lips well. So, let’s get to the few ingredients used.

DIY tinted lip balm without beeswax

Ingredients

This DIY tinted lip balm without beeswax is prepared with mango butter, almond oil, and colorant.

1. Mango Butter

A refined (unscented) mango butter is the main ingredient used in this DIY tinted lip balm without beeswax. One reason it is an ideal butter to use in a lip balm without beeswax is because it has a melting point of 86 degrees. Therefore, you can still pour the lip balm in a tube and apply it to your lips like a regular lip balm when at a normal room temperature. In addition to this, mango butter creates a rich, creamy, and moisturizing balm for your lips. And it does so without making them feel sticky or greasy.

2. Almond Oil

To add even more moisturizing properties to this DIY tinted lip balm without beeswax, you can add a few drops of almond oil. It too has many skin-nourishing properties that can moisturize and treat your lips. Without beeswax, only a few drops of this liquid oil can be added.

3. Colorant

There are all kinds of powdered mica colorants that you can choose from. Since the powder will ultimately go on your lips, you will need to use one of the lip safe mica colorants to make this DIY tinted lip balm without beeswax. And, if you want it to be vegan, you can look for lip safe vegan mica powder. The really nice thing about making your own tinted lip balm is that you can use the same colorants to make your own matching DIY nail polish as well! That post is coming up soon, so be sure to subscribe via email if you have not already done so.

DIY Lip Scrub (Bubble Gum)

This DIY lip scrub recipe is a bubble gum lip scrub recipe! Like its partner, the DIY Bubble Gum Lip balm, this scrub is one of my favorite flavors. While it does not provide aromatherapy in the same way that an essential provides, the smell is therapeutic in a nostalgic kind of way. It reminds me of cruising and eyeballing all the different bubble gums at the candy stores. Being on a low carb diet, this bubble gum DIY lip scrub recipe is one way to have your bubble gum and eat it too. So, let’s get to the ingredients for this simple fun DIY lip scrub recipe.

DIY Lip Scrub

Ingredients

This nostalgic DIY lip scrub recipe is prepared with a mixture of sugar, cocoa butter, coconut oil, bubble gum flavor oil, and colorant.

1. Sugar

Lips are a relatively small area of the skin, and they only contain a few thin layers of skin. Therefore, a scrub for the lips needs to be small and somewhat gentle on the skin. Therefore, a fine-grained caster sugar is recommended when preparing the DIY lip scrub recipes.

2. Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter is a firm butter that conditions and softens the skin on your lips. Once the skin is softened, the dead skin cells can be removed more easily while exfoliating with the fine grains of sugar.

3. Coconut Oil

The coconut oil is another very beneficial oil to add to your DIY lip scrub recipe because it can have positive effect on the skin and surrounding tissues when applied. Coconut oil (1) penetrates deeply, (2) increases blood flow to the skin, and (3) destroys a variety of microbes. Therefore, the coconut oil warms your lips while destroying germs. An unscented coconut oil that has been refined is used in the bubble gum DIY lip scrub recipe. Since the coconut oil is refined, it does not have the smell or taste of coconut.

4. Bubble Gum Flavor Oil

If you enjoy the smell of bubble gum or have a friend that really like bubble gum, this DIY lip scrub can be an uplifting, relaxing way to exfoliate the lips. A simple bubble gum lip safe oil is used to make this bubble gum DIY lip scrub.

5. Colorant

A pink colored lip safe mica is added to give this bubble gum DIY lip scrub a soft pink color. Only a small amount of the colorant is needed. So, you can purchase the one color or get set of mica colorants to use for some more DIY skincare products.

DIY Bubble Gum Lip Scrub Recipe:

Preparation:

  1. Place the cocoa butter in a microwave safe bowl.
  2. Microwave the cocoa butter using 30-45 second intervals until melted.
  3. Next, add the unscented coconut oil and the bubble gum flavor oil to the bowl with the cocoa butter.
  4. Now add the caster sugar and use a small spoon to mix all the ingredients together well.
  5. Lastly, mix the scrub with a lip safe pink mica colorant.
  6. Then store the lip scrub in the 1 oz clear round plastic jar.

How To Use:

  1. Coat your lips in the DIY bubble gum lip balm recipe about 5-10 minutes before you intend to use the DIY bubble gum lip scrub.

DIY Lip Scrub (Banana)

This banana flavored DIY lip scrub is my second favorite flavored lip scrub! However, I really think it is a tie with the bubble gum DIY lip scrub. While neither are prepared with essential oils, they both provide their own uplifting smells and perhaps nostalgic aromas. The banana lip flavoring that I ended up using reminds me of banana Laffy Taffy. Something that was probably eaten way more often than needed as a child. So, instead of eating too much candy, the banana DIY lip scrub allows you to take a mini trip around memory lane while you exfoliate your lips.

1. Sugar

A really fine sugar is needed to make a gently exfoliating DIY lip scrub. Using a fine caster sugar will provide you with a professional quality lip scrub. In this way the sugar is small, gentle, and can cover the relatively small surface area of your lips well.

2. Cacao Powder

The cacao powder is the chocolate and the colorant for this DIY lip scrub. Cacao powder is derived from the seed of a fruit. So, it is loaded with preservatives and nutrients that can benefit the skin making your DIY lip scrub all the more beneficial.

The cocoa butter is a firm moisturizing oil that acts like a barrier. It moisturizes your lips while you gently scrub away dead skin cells with your chocolate DIY lip scrub. The small amount added makes a difference. Unscented cocoa butter is added to this recipe as well. However, if you have unrefined cocoa butter, the smell may work out nicely in a DIY chocolate lip scrub recipe.

4. Coconut Oil

Unscented refined coconut oil is used in this lip scrub recipe so as not to have a coconut smell or flavor. This neutral scented coconut oil (1) increases blood flow, (2) penetrates deep into the skin, and (3) destroys a variety of microbes. With added blood flow, more moisture and nutrients can be supplied to your lips. Then, as the coconut oil penetrates the surface of your lips, it carries all of its microbe destroying properties along with it. So, the coconut oil makes the DIY chocolate lip scrub antimicrobial. Therefore, it is an ideal oil to add to your DIY lip scrub.

5. Vanilla Essential Oil

A sweet-smelling vanilla essential oil is used to make this DIY chocolate lip scrub recipe. A yummy smelling vanilla is behind the wonderful smell of chocolate. By itself, chocolate smells and tastes a lot like black coffee. So, adding the vanilla essential oil is not really an optional ingredient. It makes this yummy exfoliating DIY lip scrub what you would expect from a chocolate lip scrub recipe.

  3. Use your finger to spread the scrub across your lips using small circular movements for 1-2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Lick your lips clean or rinse your lips with warm water and then pat them dry.
  5. And lastly, re-apply one of the DIY lip balm recipes.

DIY Lip Balm Recipe (Banana)

This DIY lip balm recipe is a lip balm recipe prepared without using any essential oils. As much as I like and encourage the use of essential oils to capture some of their aromatherapy benefits and skin nourishing benefits, sometimes adding a yummy lip flavor oil is just what you need. So, when making a DIY lip balm recipe without essential oil, this banana flavored lip balm is at the top of my list. It smells just like a banana, which is one of my favorite aromas.

diy lip balm recipe

As a child, I thought that eating chewy banana flavored candy was the best thing ever. Then, as I got older, the banana muffins and banana breads became a favorite. Now, as a mature adult on a low carb diet, I get to enjoy this banana flavored DIY lip balm recipe without feeling any guilt. So, let’s talk about the ingredients.

Ingredients

This banana DIY lip balm recipe is prepared with cocoa butter, almond oil, beeswax, flavor oil, and colorant.

1. Cocoa Butter

The cocoa butter is a firm moisturizing oil that is commonly used to moisturize the skin. In its raw form, cocoa butter smells a lot like chocolate because it comes from the seed of a chocolate (cacao) fruit. When used in DIY lip balm recipes and other skin care products, the refined unscented cocoa butter is used.

2. Almond Oil

The almond oil helps the lip balm glide across your lips smoothly. It then penetrates the skin of your lips delivering its skin nourishing properties. In this way, your lips get a deep moisturizing treatment when you apply this DIY lip balm recipe. In addition to adding moisture to your lips, almond oil contains antioxidants and vitamins that can help keep your lips looking and feeling healthy.

3. Beeswax

The beeswax is used to help hold the lip balm together and to help hold the moisturizing butters and oils in your lips. So, it is a multi-purpose all-natural ingredient used in this lip balm recipe. You can use a white beeswax or a yellow beeswax. I favor the white beeswax because it is much more versatile when you decide to add color. In this case, the yellow beeswax may be a complimentary color for the banana DIY lip balm recipe.

4. Flavor Oil

A lip safe banana oil is added to this DIY lip balm recipe to give it the yummy banana smell and flavor. There are a lot of banana oils available. However, most are not lip safe oils. Therefore, I have included a direct link to some lip fragrance oils that can be used in your DIY lip balm recipes.

5. Colorant

Adding yellow lip safe powder is completely optional. You can leave the lip balm the off-white color or use a yellow beeswax to give it a yellow color.

Banana Lip Balm Recipe:

How To Prepare

  1. Place the cocoa butter, almond oil, and beeswax in a glass measuring cup with a pourable spout.
  2. Then microwave the butter, oil, and wax in 30 second intervals.
  3. Stir the butter, oil, and wax at each interval until the ingredients are all liquid.
  4. Lastly, the banana flavor and colorant.

  6. Let the banana DIY lip balm recipe cool completely.
  7. Then, it is ready to use.
