The DIY deodorant roll on is finally getting added to the DIY deodorant page! This lovely smelling formula feels great on the skin! It leaves the underarms smelling fresh and feeling soft, dry, and silky smooth. And it does so without leaving any underarm residue behind.
Ingredients
The DIY deodorant roll on is prepared with a mixture of water, cornstarch, vitamin C, emulsifier, and essential oils.
1. Water
Distilled water is used as the initial solution for making this DIY deodorant roll on. Distilled water is processed in such a way that the contaminants are removed. So, it will help keep your bottle of deodorant nice and fresh.
2. Cornstarch
The cornstarch powder plays at least two roles in this bottle of DIY deodorant. First, it is the ideal pH for an underarm deodorant. Therefore, it can help restore the proper underarm pH and thereby hinder underarm odor. Secondly, it absorbs moisture. So, the cornstarch acts like an all-natural antiperspirant in this DIY deodorant roll on.
3. Vitamin C Powder
The vitamin C powder is a potent antioxidant with all sorts of skin care benefits and health benefits. You can use some of the extra vitamin C powder in a bottle of water each day. It can help improve the overall appearance of the skin and destroy bacteria. However, it’s primary role in this DIY deodorant roll on is to help preserve and prevent the cornstarch from caking. Therefore, citric acid is a good substitute for the vitamin c in the deodorant.
4. Emulsifier
The polysorbate 20 emulsifier is an emulsifier used in some foods and drinks. The emulsifier helps the water mix with oils in this DIY deodorant roll on. Without it, the oils will float to the top of the container. And then, even after shaking, the mixture will not provide an even blend of the ingredients.
5. Essential Oils
The essential oils that you use can vary to fit your preference. Some of the most popular essential oils for making DIY deodorants are (1) bergamot, (2) tea tree, (3) lemongrass, and (4) patchouli.
- Bergamot – The bergamot is a naturally sweet and aromatic essential oil that is often used in both men and women products. It is definitely pleasant enough to use in a deodorant all by itself. The tea tree, lemongrass, and patchouli provide very potent deodorizing aromas. As stronger smelling essential oils, they are almost always combined with much sweeter complimentary essential oils.
- Tea Tree– The tea tree essential oil mixes really well with lavender essential oil and citrusy essential oils like orange, or lemon.
- Lemongrass – This very powerful deodorizer can be softened into a really pleasant aroma with vanilla essential oil.
- Patchouli – The patchouli has an earthy and mostly masculine smell. Keep in mind that this oil ages like wine. The older the bottle of patchouli, the sweeter and more pleasant the depth of the aroma gets. So, if you land a brand-new bottle of patchouli essential oil, just let it sit somewhere and forget about it. Eventually it will start producing its pleasantly unique deep aroma. With all that said, women can add a small amount of the well-aged patchouli to their DIY deodorant roll on as well. This will make it a stronger smelling deodorant. The patchouli smells nice with vanilla essential oil as well.
